#WeekendCoffeeShare – Missed Last Week

If we were having coffee, I would apologize for missing last week. I think I’ll just sip some instant coffee (it’s not bad) today while we talk. I can get you a cup. It only takes a couple of minutes for the water to boil in the microwave after all. The same goes for tea if you would prefer that.

First Nice Day, Stuck at Work (Time to Play)

The sun is finally out,
But not me, I'm in.
Can't be sure,
But this may be a sin.

Oh, the pull of a sun-soaked day,
Fighting the urge to go out to play.

Somehow, someway,
It doesn't seem fair.
Somehow I doubt,
The bosses really care.

And so we sit and waste away,
While counting down 'til it's time to play.

#WeekendCoffeeShare – A Time to Work

cappuccino on tableIf we were having coffee, I would tell you that I was absent from the Coffee Share last week.  Then, I would pour us both a cup and tell you why.  Really though, it wasn’t a big deal, just work.  We had some annual stuff going on that set me to working 12 straight 12 plus hour nights.  Then I’d tell you that last night was my last night for the foreseeable future, (maybe until next year) and so I’m opting to stay up until night rolls round again before sleeping.  Keep the coffee coming please.

We can wait for our breakfast while we finish off this first cup.  I dreamed of a bagel with peanut butter and honey spread on the way home, but alas the bagels were old.  I tossed them out, scavenged the cabinets and found nothing.  The freezer had an option though.  An option that I took in the form of a nice thin crust pizza.   Continue reading “#WeekendCoffeeShare – A Time to Work”

#weekendcoffeeshare – Still at Work

If we were having coffee, we would surely be talking about the past couple weeks and all the work that’s been going on around here. And maybe even my absence from the blog. Sorry bout that, but it was expected.

It feels good to check in now though, even if it is a lame attempt, typed out on my phone between tasks.  Which is the reason you won’t see me on the link-up (hosted so graciously by Nerd in the Brain)this week or the link to it at the bottom of this post.

So, my week?  Not much to tell unfortunately. Work, eat, sleep, repeat. That’s really it. I know, it’s kinda depressing.

Anyway, that’s enough about me and my not so exciting work life. How have you been?  I hope all has gone well for everyone this week. Perhaps you’ve been up to your eyeballs busy too, but I hope not. That’s no fun after all.

I guess I’ll let you go then, and as always, please do take the cup with you. That way you can swing on by next week and we’ll filler’up again. Til then…

#weekendcoffeeshare – Real Quick

IMG_20160408_194710083If we were having coffee, I would tell you to hold on because this is gonna go quick.  Here.  We.  Go!

The week’s been a blur.  Mostly work, however, I did manage just over 10 miles of runs.  I’d like a day off of work, but that ain’t happening any time soon.  Unless I get sick, and I do not want a day off that bad.  Anywho, the work tally is up to eight days and counting.  Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not complaining.  It’s good to be employed and all that.  It’s just that it’s that busy time of year again, but soon it will be behind me.  I’m looking forward to the regular schedule thing again already.  Wish me luck.

#weekendcoffeeshare 4-17-16

It’s Sunday and unfortunately, the weekend is slipping away, but fear not fine reader, there is another just five short days away.  And, it’s time for the weekend coffee share.  Let’s talk!

If we were having coffee, tonight I would be having a fine brew called Newman’s Own Organic, medium roast.  It is, so far, my favorite that Keurig has to offer.  That probably says something about me, but I’ll not be psychoanalyzing myself tonight.  I’ll leave that to you.  So please help yourself to whatever you find in the K-cup drawer and kick back for a bit.

Yesterday was a full day, and it for once in a long while didn’t involve work.  That’s right, I finally got a day off and took full advantage of it.  It started perfectly with some well deserved extra sleep.  Once up, it was time to get busy.  My daughter and I got outside and mounted dirt bikes for a fun weekend activity.  It’s been weeks since I rode, and it was so much fun to get back on it.

Then we cooked a healthy dinner and watched some tv.  First the Supercross race, then the UFC on Fox.  A great night indeed.  Unfortunately, all good things must end, and it did.  This fine Sunday morning, I found myself back and work and in a foul mood to boot.  You know, one of those moods where you don’t even want to be on the planet.  That was me.  Not until that little two mile trail run after work, did I feel right again.  Funny how that is.

Anyway, I hope you guys are doing good out there.  Try not to work too much this week.  Heck, you may as well rest up for the weekend that’s coming!

Thanks for reading, and God Bless!

If we were having coffee, I’d be having this “Original Donut Shop Coffee,” fresh from the Keurig.  To be honest, it’s not my fave, but it’s okay.  I prefer a darker roast, but if something a bit lighter is your thing, by all means, grab a cup.  There is also green tea if you would prefer that.  Other than that, sorry to say there’s not much else.  Except water.  I like water.  If that’s your thing too, have at it.

Today was my first day off in a while.  Since the sixth of last month, I’ve been at work, so today was great.  To say that I needed it, is an accurate statement for more reason.  The past several days, I’ve not felt the best, so a day to rest was more than welcomed.  Unfortunately, tomorrow is back to work and back on long hours too.  Ugh.

The good news is that I’m feeling a bit better, though not 100 yet.  It is spring and the pollen is in the air, so maybe that is to be expected.  We’ll just see how next week goes.  Hopefully, all the vitamin C that I’ve been taking will carry me through.

That’s really about all that’s happening.  Work and more work.  It’s a good thing I’ve got all of this coffee to get me through it.  A full weekend is coming, hopefully soon.  Until that happens, I’ll continue to work and drink lots of coffee.

So wish me luck.  You guys have a great week!  I’ll see you in a bit.  God bless.

#weekendcoffeeshare: 3-20-2016

If we were having coffee, tonight I’ll be drinking from the Keurig and trying to keep my eyes open long enough to finish the cup. Just ignore that big ‘ol yawn and fix a cup of whatever we have in the tray. Your choice.

March 6th was my last off day. We spent it driving home from Atlanta, where we had run the Spartan Race the previous day. Now, it is the 20th and still a day off is but a distant dream. I would expect at least a few more weeks of this, so to say that in looking forward to that off day, whenever it may come, is a bit of an understatement.

Really though, the work itself isn’t bad. There is all the drama and confusion and mix-ups and things that go generally wrong for whatever reason, but that’s normal to some extent. The drama does seem higher than normal, but that is to be expected when people are spending so much time together. There’s only so much we can take of one another after all!

All this work is really putting a damper on my training however. It’s tough to work 10 to 16 hours everyday and still find the energy to train. I’m not saying impossible, just tough. The only solace I take is that my job is somewhat physical. I walk a lot, including up and down stairs many trips a day, and have the opportunity to carry things while doing it. While it may not be a proper workout, at least I’m not sitting all day. So that’s something.

I hope you had a great weekend.  Thanks for stopping by for coffee. (Or whatever that is in your cup there.) It’s about time to get some shut-eye for me, so I’m turning in. Feel free to fix another if you’d like. I regret my inability to have another with you, but as they say, “it is what it is.”

‘Til next time, God bless and have a great week!

A Friday Run

Fridays are great. They are what most of us look forward to all week, and with good reason.  It signifies the end of the work week, a time to relax, and a time that we can do some of the things we want to do for a change.

If you are like us, many Fridays are spent out to eat, and then later at the movies, seeing whatever is the latest thing out.  This Friday was different though.  This Friday, I was home all alone, left to my own devices, to fend for myself. It couldn’t have come at a better time.

See, now is a busy time at work.  I’ve not had a day off in a couple of weeks, and I don’t see one in the immediate future.  The lack of off time, combined with longer than normal hours can be draining in more than a physical manner.  What I needed was a way to recharge my mental state, and a good run was just what I needed.  That much I knew, so after thinking about it for several days at work, Friday finally rolled around.  I punched out, came home and changed into running gear, before driving to one of the dirt roads that I frequent.

Where the dirt road ends.

After close to four miles, I called it quits.  Not really because I wanted to though.  It was nice out there, just me and the dirt road, away from all the stresses and dramas of work, not to mention life in general.  That’s really one of the great things about running.  Yeah, it can be hard, but it’s also very rewarding.  It is time to think, or time to not think when it’s just you, your heartbeat, and your breathing, one step at a time, all in a rhythm of its very own.

Back at home, I made a salad, cooked a little, and ate.  Now that it’s time for bed, I’m still thinking about running and doing it again.  Maybe tomorrow, maybe Monday.  A lot will depend on work, but one thing’s for sure, I’ll be happy when that time arrives.

Until next time, God bless, and happy running!

#weekendcoffeeshare: 3-6-2016 Heading Home

We have acquired medals. Now we must return home.

What a weekend!  If we were having coffee, we would probably be talking about the Spartan Race that we either ran yesterday or that you were preparing to run today.  It seems as though everyone I saw this morning at the hotel was either wearing a finisher’s t-shirt or some sort of running gear in preparation to go get their’s.

So hotel coffee it is this morning.  They have regular and decaf as well as an assortment of hot teas, if that’s your thing, and juice.  Really not that bad.  I had coffee, raisin bran, then juice, then tea.  I couldn’t help myself.  When there is variety, I sample.

In just a bit we’ll be back on the road and shortly after that, back to the real world.  Oh, the real world.  The one that involves work and all the good and bad that goes with that.  Yes, there is good and bad.  More good than bad even, for without the work, I wouldn’t be able to do these things that I love.  So with that thought in mind, I will report to work, Lord willing, Monday morning and do my job until the next time we get to go adventuring.

One of the good things about heading home though is that I get to get back to training.  This Spartan was better on me than the last, but I still have vast room for improvement.  Work toward improving starts today and continues everyday.  I am my own competition and I will work to improve both on and off the course.

If we were having coffee, then you’ve undoubtedly got a drive ahead of you as well, seeing as you are here in the hotel with me.  So be safe out there on the roads, there are lots of crazy people out there.  Soon, there will be another.

Thank you for checking out my #weekendcoffeeshare.  Hope you all have a great day and productive week!
