If we were having coffee, I’d tell you that I’ve thought a lot about writing over the last couple of weeks. Then, I’d mention that thinking about writing does not translate to writing. The past couple of weeks have been a struggle, and I can’t tell you why.
Anyway, it’s late, just past midnight, but there’s coffee in the pot and college football on the tv, so grab a cup and make yourself comfortable and we’ll see how the game turns out. It’s Oregon and Auburn. I recorded it while out running, so if you know who wins, don’t spoil it for me.
If writing has been the dark spot over the last couple of weeks, running has to be the bright counterpoint to that. The half marathon training is going well. Tonight’s run was 9 miles and I’m happy to say they came fairly easy. If the race had been tonight, the distance would not have been an issue, so I’ll probably start doing a bit more speedwork so that perhaps I can finish the race faster than I previously thought I could.
I think I’ll keep this short tonight. Mostly because there’s not much to report, and partly so we can play around on the guitar while the game plays. So feel free to sit back and relax, there’s lots of coffee and more can be brewed it we go through the pot.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you about the little alligator I saw on my run Friday. We’d sip our coffee, Seattle’s Best, fresh brewed with whatever fixings you’d prefer and listen to the tunes flow softly from a random playlist. Right now, it’s Maren Morriss, up next, who knows?
So yeah, the alligator turned out to be the best part of Friday’s run. It was hot and humid, and I was tired, but the week had not allowed for a lot of miles and I really was looking to put in a good effort. What I ended up with was seven and a quarter miles of struggle and some pics of a little gator who had found himself on the road.
If we were having coffee, we have just finished eating breakfast for dinner, and now we’re sitting around finishing off the coffee. It was a good dinner, blueberry pancakes with maple syrup, an onion and cheddar omelet, and of course, coffee.
If we were having cofffee, we wouild have just left Starbucks and piled back into the car on the way home from the mountains. So this afternoon, we’re in close quarters, but don’t worry I put my deoderant on this morning and besides, the coffee aroma is strong with us!
We were just losing the station, so I scanned the FM a bit and found a Rock station playing Smashing Pumpkins. That should hold us on music for a while.
If we were having coffee, I’d say that it’s been a pretty good week, turn the tv off, and put some music on. It’s so hard to talk with the tv gobbling up so much attention, but a little soft background music seems just about right. I’m feeling a little Jimmy Buffett tonight, and the first song up, “A Pirate Looks at 40.” A classic!
I’d offer you some coffee, but maybe that’s not your thing. We could probably dig up some tea bags if you prefer that, and there’s always water. Water is what I drink most, cool refreshing water is always great, but coffee is also a constant in my life, starting my days and often finishing off the evening.
Now that we’re all settled and sipping, we can chat about the week.
I said last week that I was back writing, and so I am. I’ve rewritten much of a story that I always liked but knew that it had some flaws, and so I went back in and started cutting it up. It’s the same story, but different (if that makes sense). I like to think that things are better described, that the story is tighter, and that my main character is better developed. The story is close to done! All that’s left is the ending, and that’s going to be a little tricky, but it should be done soon. I’ll make a couple editing passes after that and see what happens.
The week in running has been okay. I’ve logged 13.7 miles in this hot, hot, humid southern heat. There’s one more day in my running week, so I’m hoping for at least five more miles to get close to 20 for the week. I had planned more miles this week, but it didn’t work out. I am pretty happy with the 8 miler I did yesterday, even if I did have to do a little walk/run/walk/run for the last mile and a half. It was the longest I’ve gone since injury and it gives me hope for future runs. The most encouraging part of the run was after the run when everything still felt good. I mean, there was some soreness of the quads and hips, but no real pain, so yay! All in all, the half marathon training is going well!
On the reading front, I’m reading David Faland’s “Beyond the Gate,” and listening to Stephen King’s “It” on Audible. Both good books for drastically different reasons.
So, how was your week? Are you reading any good books? I’m always on the lookout for a good book, especially in the area of scifi/fantasy. Anything else going on? Tell me about it.
Hope you have a great weekend/week! See you here again soon!
WeekendCoffeeShare is an informal weekly link-up hosted now by Eclectic Alli that serves as something of a mind-dump for the week. If there are typos and what-not found here, I apologize, but mind-dump. I don’t do a lot of editing here as I like that it is more a stream of consciousness type post, normally written while drinking coffee, listening to music, and reflecting on the week gone by.
If you would like, you can write and post your own Weekend Coffee Share here with the rest of us coffee drinking fiends!
If we were having coffee, I may just sip along on a little something else if that suits you. You see, while it’s still early, I’ll be heading to bed soon. Tomorrow starts long hours at work for a bit and I may as well rest while I can. Let me say now that if I’m absent for a week or two, it’s work’s fault and like Arnold, I’ll be back.
There is a pot in the kitchen ready to go if you want fresh, hot coffee. All’s to do is hit the button and presto wammo, coffee. It’s amazing the time we live in.
So tonight, we’re listening to Smashing Pumpkins. They played 1979 on the radio earlier and it put me in the mood.
I managed a decent amount of writing during the week. Mostly at work on lunch break. That trend will come to a screeching halt this week. Oh well, what you gonna do, right? While all of that lunch break writing was for my book, I did manage to write and publish on the blog a #FridayFictioneers story titled “No Fingers, No Play” while at home one evening.
I had a few runs this week. The most in the past six months. It’s still not enough, but it’s coming along. That’s another thing that will be cut way back because of the upcoming work schedule, but like I said earlier, oh well.
I think I’m going to head out. Hope I’m not being short or anything, it’s just that I want to make sure everything is good for the morning. Lots to do, you know?
Anyway, ya’ll have a great week, and I’ll see you when I can.
