#WeekendCoffeeShare – So, so tired…

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you how tired I really am right now.  Then, I’d offer you a cup of this fine (not really) hotel coffee.  That’s all I really have right now, other than water.  It’s good water though.  So for that, I apologize.  There’s got to be a coffee shop around here somewhere, but again, tired.  And that bed is right there and, well, you know.

We ran a Spartan Super today, and let me tell you, there was some suffering going on out there.  Out weather has been mild lately, but today was nothing but hot.  Mid 90’s and humid turned what looked to be a good race into a struggle.

All was good, not great, at the 5 mile mark.  By the sixth mile the cramps came on hard, and they didn’t quit.  Not even after the race was done at about 8.5 miles.  You could say that it was a tale of two races.  There for a while, I thought that I would have a great, maybe my best, race ever despite not feeling my running legs early.  Then the last bit, when it all fell apart.

Since the race ended, I’ve hydrated like a madman.  We race again tomorrow after all, and it would be nice to do it without the cramps.  I’m not confident.  Tomorrow’s race is a Sprint so it won’t be as long.  So that’s good.  It should come in somewhere between 3 to 5 miles, and if I’m lucky, cramp free.

I do appreciate you stopping by!  But unfortunately, I’m going to put my head on that pillow over there, so I’ll see you next week if not before.  Have a great week everyone!

#WeekendCoffeeShare – Writing & Running

cappuccino on table

If we were having coffee, I would offer you a nice cup of this fresh brew that I have.  Right now I’ve got the coffee maker set on the single cup setting in anticipation of my having to sleep at some point tonight.  If you’re not in the mood for coffee we have tea and water.  Sorry, we’re a little limited at the moment.

We finally made it out to see the new Avengers movie last night, and it was good.  I won’t give any spoilers here, but I will say that it did not end the way that I would have expected it too.

Wednesday threatened my writing streak, which is now up to 36 days today.  I really thought that it wasn’t going to happen that day since I was at work all day long.  Thankfully, we get a break ever now and again and I managed to tap out a few hundred words on my phone.  Whew! That was a close one.  With the streak intact, I was able to sleep well once making it home.

Other than writing this week, I wanted to get back on track with training.  It didn’t go quite as well as I would have liked.  I managed a couple of runs on Tuesday and Thursday, and they were good.  The only thing was that Saturday was supposed to be a long run day.  I was hoping for somewhere between 10 to 15 miles, but it wasn’t to be.  For some reason, my right hamstring tightened up, so I was scared to run on it.  Not wanting to completely skip out on the workout, I just rode the bicycle a bit.  The bike is a little easier on the hamstrings, working the quads instead.  I’ll be happy to have that work in when the mountain races get here this year, so it wasn’t a wasted day.

All in all, it’s been a good week.  Hopefully next week will be better.  I really want to get out there and run some more, so I’ll rest up some tomorrow and see what happens Monday.  And I’ll write either way, because I can do that even if I’m not capable of running.

Have a great week everyone!  See you next week!

#WeekendCoffeeShare – Watching the Fights

cappuccino on table

If we were having coffee, I may just have to pass tonight.  Not because my love of coffee has waned (on the contrary), but because I’ve already drank about two pots today.  At some point tonight, I’m going to need to sleep, so perhaps I should abstain until then.  The coffee pot is at the ready however, so feel free to help yourself, and as always, we have tea and water.

We can watch the fights as we talk.  The UFC is on, and maybe there will be some good fights tonight.  I used to keep up with the UFC.  We would go out and watch the pay-per-views, making a night of it with friends.  It was a good time, but now I mostly just watch the free ones that come on TV.  I’m not sure why we quit going out to watch the fights.  Maybe I’m just getting old, or maybe I just got tired of spending the money that could have been better used elsewhere.  Who knows? #WeekendCoffeeShare – Mid-January 2018

cappuccino on tableIf we were having coffee, I’d offer you a cup of this nice fresh brewed Seattle’s Best that I’m sipping tonight.  It’s good coffee.  Is it the best Seattle has to offer?  Maybe, maybe not.  That probably depends greatly on who you ask, but I think it will do nicely for us tonight.  If coffee’s not for you, I’d offer up some tea or perhaps some water.  Almond milk?  I don’t know, but we’ll find something for you.

Now that we’re all settled, let’s talk about the week gone by.  It was a pretty good one, if not as productive as I would have liked.

On the positive side, I’m starting to get my wind back as far as running.  Since my calf healed well enough to start running again, I’ve been slowly upping my mileage.  Saturday was my longest run since coming back, yielding 7 miles on a cloudy Saturday afternoon.  It was great!

#WeekendCoffeeShare – Jacksonville Terrain Race

If we were having coffee, we would be on the way home from the Terrain Race in Jacksonville Florida. (Just a few more hours!)

Anyway, I just finished sipping a nice cup of hot Christmas Blend from the Starbucks inside of Target. I’m not sure what you got, but I hope it was nice and tasty like mine.

Now that we have drinks, I’d tell you how good the race went. I finished the competive heat without losing my band, though I can honestly say that I need to improve my running. That six weeks of torn calf muscle healing has really taken a toll on me. I finished though, and am healthy still, so I’ll count it a success.

That’s not the best thing though. My awesome daughter, who is a much better racer than me, took second female in the competitive wave! Her first pro podium, netting her a big check for $100! She was so happy standing up on that podium with that big check held high over her head!

Yes, I am a proud dad.

That was about it for us over the weekend. We tried to see the new Star Wars, but the theater was crazy and all but the front row was sold out, so we opted for “Murder on the Orient Express” instead. It was good, not to mention nice and relaxing after the race.

I guess that works out anyway though since my daughter wanted to re-watch “The Force Awakens” before going to see the new one. Perhaps we can do that tonight.

As for now, I need to check on the #FridayFictioneers link. I began a story on the way down, but never got to finish it. If the link is still good, I need to get on it. If not, I should probably still finish the story. Though maybe not in 100 words. We’ll see.

So, I’ll let you go. I hope to see you next week. ‘Til then, safe travels!

#DSFWeeklyRewind – Still Healing

cappuccino on tableAnd a mighty good Sunday to ya!  It’s that time again to look back on a week gone by and what all did and did not happen.  Or a few pieces of it anyway.  As always, I hope you are all doing well out there in internet land and have had a good week gone by, not to mention a good week on the way.

As for me, I’m still healing the torn calf muscle.  That, of course means no running and even being careful while walking.  Funny thing is that I do good as long as I keep gently using it.  It’s when I lay up on the couch or get out of bed in the morning that it gives me the worst of it.

It does seem to be getting better everyday, and I’m so happy about that.  I can almost see the day where I run again.  Almost.  I am waiting for that day, very impatiently.  Since it is better though, I’ve been in the gym, doing some lifting and other stuff that doesn’t require lots of lower body work.  So that’s good I guess, as I often neglect that kind of workout when I’m able to run.  Perhaps this little running setback can put me back on a more complete fitness schedule.

On a sad note, yesterday was my last Spartan Race of the season.  On an even sadder note, I didn’t get to actually run it.  I did however, get to hang out and watch as my daughter ran it.  I am so proud of her and the athlete she has become, and look forward to seeing where she goes in the future.

As far as the blog, I did not get anything done last week.  I hope to remedy that as this week progresses, but we’ll see how it goes.  I want to write more, and that more includes beginning to work on novel length ideas as well as shorter projects for the blog.  Writing is fun when there is time to do it, and I hope to have that time this week.  Again, we’ll see.

With all that said, I’ll let you go.  We’ve all got a brand new week, and opportunity to make the best of it!  Let’s do it!
