George sipped his coffee while reading the latest draft not realizing it had gone tepid. He winced. Probably for the best. That cup marked the last of pot number two, and his nerves were standing on end. Sleep would never come. Tomorrow would be misery.
Pushing the cup away, he reached instead for a glass. One made for his “other” favorite liquid.
Wine flowed around the smooth curl of the glass. Red essence crashed into itself, crimson waves breaking on an ocean shore.
He sipped and read and felt his jangled nerves untangle. Perhaps sleep would come tonight after all.
If we were having coffee, I would point you in the direction of the mostly full pot of good Seattle’s Best atop the counter and ask you to please help yourself. “Fresh brewed this morning,” I’d say while setting some music up. Alanis this morning sounds good. Surely such an offer you would find hard to refuse, but there is also tea around here somewhere, along with apple cider, and perhaps one or two other things that may pass as a morning drinkable beverage.
If we were having coffee, I’d tell you what a busy work week it was, express my thankfulness that Saturday is finally here, show you my brand spanking new coffee pot, and offer you a fresh brewed cup from it! Once we had our cups filled with delicious brew, I’d wish you a very happy Leap Day on this February 29th!
If we were having coffee, we would be in the car again, looking for that next cup of Joe, whether it be at a roadside coffee shop or when we get home. Only time will tell on that front. As for now, we have water to hold us over if we get too thirsty.
if we were having coffee, we’d be in the car and I’d promise that we would stop at Starbucks in a bit. Once there, we can do this thing properly, with drinks, hot or cold, and all the glorious smells of brewing coffee that come with it.
If we were having coffee, I’d say “Happy Friday to ya,” and we could sit around, sipping hot beverages and expounding on how great it is that the weekend is here. Tonight, I’m having a little bit of apple cider since I’ve already had quite a bit of coffee today, but no worries, I can hook you right up with a cup. Only takes a couple of minutes to brew a pot and we’ll be in business. There are other things as well. Hot cocoa, tea, and what-have-you. I’m sure we can come up with something.
Music from the Gin Blossoms is playing as we sip our drinks, Super Girl is playing now. It’s a live album and it’s on random, so who knows what’s next. If we don’t like it, we’ll skip ahead.
If we were having coffee on this last evening of January, I’d be having hot chocolate. It’s a nasty day out, cold and rainy, and I’m happy that you could stop by for a chat and get out of all that mess for a bit.
Can I get you a coffee, hot chocolate, or perhaps some hot apple cider. With this weather, I’m pretty sure something hot is the way to go. Once we get the drinks all sorted, we can listen to the rain fall on the roof and be thankful for blankets, warm beverages, and heat pumps.
