If we were having coffee, I’d have to apologize for the hour. It’s late, but there’s coffee for that, I’ve got the UFC fights on the tv, so we can watch that while we chat. In my cup, I have Charleston Coffee Roaster’s Bold Roast. It’s good stuff, the beans are freshly ground, and it’s hot in the pot. By all means, help yourself. Coffee not your thing? There’s tea and perhaps a few other things around. I’m sure we can find something for you.
I’ll tell you, this UFC is weird with no audience. The first guy out waking around the ring pointing to the nonexistent crowd was strange, but Bruce Buffer announcing the fighters with his usual flare really took the strange up a notch. How can you be out there pumping the crowd up when there is no crowd.
Regardless though, this is a big deal for the UFC as it is the only sporting event available tonight. Not to mention the only live sporting event in, how long has it been anyway? Feels like forever. I’ll not be getting the PPV, because I’m not paying that. I’m not that big of a fan, but I’ll watch the free fights when I know they’re on. It was a only by chance that I saw a commercial on earlier while we were out eating, so I figured I’d check ’em out.
Speaking of that commercial, did you notice I said that we were eating out? That’s right, we went to an actual restaurant for lunch today, another event that seems like it hasn’t happened in forever. We sat out on the patio, it was a little cool, and we had food just like in the good ‘ole days. It’s one of those things that shouldn’t be a big deal, but it kind of is as everyone tries to regain a little bit of normalcy in their lives.
Other than that, it’s been a pretty normal week. I’ve run, wrote, worked, and watched way too much tv.
As for running, it was, I think, my best week since returning from injury. I was able to get a little over 31 miles with virtually no hip pain. Okay, there was a little at the end of the 8 miler Friday, but it was just a little, so that’s okay. I’ve been doing a lot of foot strengthening stuff to help with my balance, form, and all that, so I’m hoping the hip pain will be a thing of the past soon.
As the writing thing goes, I don’t think that went as well as the running. The week started well enough, but it didn’t last long which is disappointing as I thought that story re-work would be done and it’s not. Hopefully I’ll do better next week. I feel better when I write regularly, not necessarily everyday, but most days for at least a little. It doesn’t have to be tons of words or anything (though that’s nice too), but the feeling of getting something done, making progress is nice. It’s a lot like running. The more you do it, the better you get, the further you can go, and so on and so forth. It’s for that reason I try for some consistency, but I often fail. One piece of consistency that I try to maintain is the weekly Friday Fictioneers challenge, and I did manage that, so that’s a plus I guess.
Hope you guys are all doing well out there. I know everyone and everything is different with the coronavirus, but we’re seeing signs of things getting back to normal. Hopefully that trend continues and somehow the coronavirus will be a thing of the past. I don’t know if it will happen, but we can dream, right?
Stay safe out there, and have a great week! Feel free to stop in for coffee anytime!
#WeekendCoffeeShare is an informal weekly link-up hosted now by Eclectic Alli that serves as something of a mind-dump for the week. If there are typos and what-not found here, I apologize, but mind-dump. I don’t do a lot of editing here as I like that it is more a stream of consciousness type post, normally written while drinking coffee, listening to music, and reflecting on the week gone by.
