#WeekendCoffeeShare – 2020-Leap Day

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you what a busy work week it was, express my thankfulness that Saturday is finally here, show you my brand spanking new coffee pot, and offer you a fresh brewed cup from it! Once we had our cups filled with delicious brew, I’d wish you a very happy Leap Day on this February 29th!

That’s right, it’s Leap Day, and to kick it of I’m drinking for the first time from my brand spanking new coffee pot. This one is a Ninja like the old one, but a different model. It has buttons for a couple brew settings and a delay brew setting which is all important for me. I need coffee waiting for me in the mornings before work, and the old pot quit doing that for me. After a couple morning waking to half brewed and cold coffee, I knew that something had to be done.

It was an emergency! An emergency of the worst kind. A coffee emergency!

There were some scramblings happening on those mornings, let me tell you. There was brewing, and microwaving, and all manner of things that revolved around a certain black morning liquid that I can’t seem to go without, which chewed up precious minutes that were not there to spare. Luckily, I managed to make it to work on time those morning, but the call was close.

By the way, the reason I went with a Ninja is that they seem to brew hotter than other pots I’ve had in the past. I like my coffee hot, and prefer not to go from coffee pot to microwave to get it there.

The thing I probably most want to tell you about today is my podcast. Yes, I am finally, actually recording things. I’ve got two short episodes up so far. They are short stories of the very short Friday Fictioneers type of 100 word stories, so each of the episodes are only 3 to 4 minutes. I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve got so much to learn about this medium, but it has been really fun and perhaps a bit more work than I would have thought.

I’m recording and publishing with Anchor and my phone right now, though I hope to have an actual microphone one day. Anchor distributes my podcast to other platforms like Spotify, Google Podcasts, and others, so if there’s a link to your favorite listening platform all you should have to do is click. You can also listen straight from the Anchor page though. As far as subscribing and reviews or feedback, I think that’s platform specific. I’ve looked around on Anchor and there’s a Favorite button for podcast, but the functionality of their Favorites list seems limited to me. (When I go to my favorited podcast, previously played episodes don’t show different than others and little things like that.)

If you make it by, I’d be interested to know what you think as I’m still learning and looking to improve, and ecstatic about good reviews on your favorite platform. The feedback I’ve received so far has been positive and I’m looking to have some more episodes soon! I’ll just leave the link here!

This past week was a busy one, but that makes the weekend all that much better. Things probably won’t slow much if at all until April, and then, we’ll see.

It’s a little cool this morning. I need to change out the battery in the wife’s car, so I’m going to let the sun climb high, before venturing out. It will still be cool, but I’ll let it be as warm as possible on this last day of February.

I got a 5 mile run in yesterday evening, and saw a stunning sunset. Posted a pic of that on Insta, maybe should’ve put it up on Twitter too as I’m trying to use that platform as more of a writer life based social. Maybe I’ll post it. Twitter is hard for me, and I don’t know why. It just it. Not as hard as Facebook, but hard. Overall, the week has been pretty good with running and exercise in general as I try to pull back a little on the miles to do some other stuff so that when I do go out for miles, they are better miles. If that long rambling makes sense. I hope it’s working. So I’ve got at least 14 miles this week, and maybe I’ll get a few more today. Hope so, but I’ll have to see how things go.

Okay, it seems I’ve rambled on long enough for a Saturday morning. I should really go look at swapping that battery out in my wife’s car. It’s probably not going to warm up anymore than it has already. Thanks so much for stopping by, it’s always good to have company for coffee and conversation. See you next week!

#WeekendCoffeeShare is an informal weekly link-up hosted now by Eclectic Alli that serves as something of a mind-dump for the week. If there are typos and what-not found here, I apologize, but mind-dump. I don’t do a lot of editing here as I like that it is more a stream of consciousness type post, normally written while drinking coffee, listening to music, and reflecting on the week gone by.

You can post your very own #WeekendCoffeeShare here!

  1. Hi Russell,
Do I understand you correctly; are you recording yourself telling stories for others to listen to? This sounds interesting. It never occurred to me to do this. You must keep us posted. You may have me looking into doing something similar.
    All the best.

    1. So far, that’s all I’ve done. Two very short stories. I would like to continue that, but not limit myself to it. Maybe talk about topics around writing, running, and/or life in general with stories mixed in. Of course, if the stories do well, perhaps that will be the main focus. Feel free to check out the podcast and let me know what you think. Have a great week Gary!

    2. I have been considering something like this, but trying to find a way to have an audio overlay on my blog so that one has the option to “listen” to the post while they read (or not)
I set up a page on anchor but havent publically posted anything yet, will definitely check out

      1. Thanks! It’s definitely a learning experience, but that’s part of life. Let me know how it goes.

Oh, and I setup my anchor account at least a year before actually posting, so… I guess don’t worry about that.

  2. How awesome! Coffee has to be really hot to be worth drinking in my opinion. Hot and strong, otherwise I’ll rather skip it. Podcasts sounds so fabulous! I do like to lisen to some at times, and I am planning to do more of it in the mornings on the bus. I think podcast will only grow as a medium. Good for you that you’ve started that. Best of luck!
