#WeekendCoffeeShare – 2020-01-24

If we were having coffee, we would be sipping some fresh brewed Starbucks Christmas Blend and relaxing with a little Jimmy Buffet on this nice Friday night. There’s also a bit of tea if you’d rather that and we could break out the Nilla Wafers for a snack if you’d like.

How is that Nilla Wafer? It had been forever since I had one of those not in banana pudding, but there’s a series of books I’m reading (The Joe Ledger series of novels by Jonathan Maberry) and one of the main characters has a thing for Nilla Wafers and after four books, I had to have some. They are good. I can see why Mr. Church likes them so much. I always did say that the best part of banana pudding was the cookies anyway, so I don’t guess I should be surprised.

So let me ask, is it just me or do you find yourself taking characteristics, habits, language, etc… from the characters in the books you read. I’ve found myself doing this for years, mainly if it’s a long series and I’m spending a lot of time in that world. I picked up several phrases from The Wheel of Time books when I was going through them, as well as other series, and now Nilla Wafers. So is it just me?

I had an up and down writing week. A couple days with real progress, and a couple days with none. I’ve given a little thought about coming up with a weekly word goal. I know lots of people have a daily goal and I used to, but that’s not manageable right now. I’m not sure what it should be, maybe 3000 to start and if that’s manageable, up it. We’ll see.

I wasn’t here last week as I was spending the weekend at the beach with my wife. It was a good time but cold. We didn’t spend but a couple minutes on the actual beach in the middle of the day Saturday when it wasn’t too bad, but we did lots of running around and stuff. A time never really presented itself for me to join you for coffee, so I apologize for that, but it happens.

As for the rest of the night, I may pick on that ole guitar a little. Listening to Buffett has me wanting to play a bit and just relax a little. I should probably write, but I’m feeling a little brain dead after all the week and I’d probably be falling asleep at the keyboard if I tried to think that much. Tomorrow for sure though. Tomorrow’s looking good for writing.

I understand if you want to head out before I grab that guitar. The sounds I make come out of that thing have never been what anyone would call good and it’s been a few weeks, so tonight will probably be worse.

Feel free to take a cup with you. See you next week!

#WeekendCoffeeShare is an informal weekly link-up hosted now by Eclectic Alli that serves as something of a mind-dump for the week. If there are typos and what-not found here, I apologize, but mind-dump. I don’t do a lot of editing here as I like that it is more a stream of consciousness type post, normally written while drinking coffee, listening to music, and reflecting on the week gone by.

  1. Hi Russel,
You nailed it.I am notorious for forgetting to eat or drink until I read a story or even see a show where a main character picks up a glass of beer or wine, which triggers a version of ‘I’ve got some of that somewhere in the garage and only the lack of a pause button can hold back the urge to spurge. I could have just finished a huge dinner, but if the movie I’m watching takes a character through a time of hunger then provides a big meal – I’m ready to enjoy it with them.
nuts – I tell you – just nuts.

  2. I have learned a lot about food/cooking while reading L.E. Modesitt’s novels, especially the science fiction ones. Sort of fun. And reading always provides opportunities for running into something new.

    Best wishes for the week!
