If we were having coffee, I’d tell you how happy I am that Dorian blew on by without too much heartache and hardship to the home-front and the surrounding areas. We would have the Saturday night college football game on, LSU at Texas, and be sipping some fresh brewed Eight O’Clock coffee. Coffee not your thing? We can probably scrounge up some tea or something to suit you, so sit back, relax, and let’s chat.
Dorian was the first major hurricane of the 2019 season, and all in all, we got pretty lucky. It skirted the coast, caused a little damage and moved on. Not at all what it did in the Bahamas. What happened there was just brutal.
It was a bad week for running and writing overall. I’ve only managed a touch over 7 miles this week on two runs. Hopefully I’ll get a few more miles tomorrow (Sunday is the last day of the running week of the Strava app) and end the week in double digits at least. Today’s run was rough. I think it was from the lack of running over the past four days. One thing about running, is that to run good and be comfortable while doing it, you need to run regularly. At least I do, and this week was not conducive to that. Oh well, next week is right around the corner.
Then there’s the writing. The slump remains, and I honestly don’t know why. I’ve had ideas this week, and there are a couple of stories on hold that only lack finishing, so I can only ask myself what the problem is. At this rate, I’ll have to change the blog tagline. But as with running, there is a next week for writing too. I’ve come up with a simple plan, and if it works, I’ll tell you about it next week.
One part of my plan to get writing again, is to read a bit more than what I’ve allowed myself in the past couple of weeks. I finished listening to The Shining this week on Audible, and plan to pick up the sequel Doctor Sleep (both Stephen King) on Kindle as soon as I can pick up an Amazon card. That needs to be read before the movie comes out in November, so I’ll get right on that. Also, the end is nearing on Beyond the Gate (David Farland), and I’m not sure if I’ll get the next book in the series. The story is good, but there are typos and little things that bother me all throughout the first two books. I can overlook them, but if there’s other things to read, I may just opt for them. Last, I started listening to The Lies of Locke Lamora (Scott Lynch) and I’m really enjoying it so far.
Hopefully, all the reading will inspire a bit of writing!
That’s all I’ve got this week, so I guess I’ll let you go. Feel free to grab a cup to go if you like. Hope you have a great rest of the weekend and a great week to come!
#WeekendCoffeeShare is an informal weekly link-up hosted now by Eclectic Alli that serves as something of a mind-dump for the week. If there are typos and what-not found here, I apologize, but mind-dump. I don’t do a lot of editing here as I like that it is more a stream of consciousness type post, normally written while drinking coffee, listening to music, and reflecting on the week gone by.
You can add your own Coffee Share here.
