#WeekendCoffeeShare 2019-07-13

If we were having coffee, I’d say that it’s been a pretty good week, turn the tv off, and put some music on. It’s so hard to talk with the tv gobbling up so much attention, but a little soft background music seems just about right. I’m feeling a little Jimmy Buffett tonight, and the first song up, “A Pirate Looks at 40.” A classic!

I’d offer you some coffee, but maybe that’s not your thing. We could probably dig up some tea bags if you prefer that, and there’s always water. Water is what I drink most, cool refreshing water is always great, but coffee is also a constant in my life, starting my days and often finishing off the evening.

Now that we’re all settled and sipping, we can chat about the week.

I said last week that I was back writing, and so I am. I’ve rewritten much of a story that I always liked but knew that it had some flaws, and so I went back in and started cutting it up. It’s the same story, but different (if that makes sense). I like to think that things are better described, that the story is tighter, and that my main character is better developed. The story is close to done! All that’s left is the ending, and that’s going to be a little tricky, but it should be done soon. I’ll make a couple editing passes after that and see what happens.

The week in running has been okay. I’ve logged 13.7 miles in this hot, hot, humid southern heat. There’s one more day in my running week, so I’m hoping for at least five more miles to get close to 20 for the week. I had planned more miles this week, but it didn’t work out. I am pretty happy with the 8 miler I did yesterday, even if I did have to do a little walk/run/walk/run for the last mile and a half. It was the longest I’ve gone since injury and it gives me hope for future runs. The most encouraging part of the run was after the run when everything still felt good. I mean, there was some soreness of the quads and hips, but no real pain, so yay! All in all, the half marathon training is going well!

On the reading front, I’m reading David Faland’s “Beyond the Gate,” and listening to Stephen King’s “It” on Audible. Both good books for drastically different reasons.

So, how was your week? Are you reading any good books? I’m always on the lookout for a good book, especially in the area of scifi/fantasy. Anything else going on? Tell me about it.

Hope you have a great weekend/week! See you here again soon!

WeekendCoffeeShare is an informal weekly link-up hosted now by Eclectic Alli that serves as something of a mind-dump for the week. If there are typos and what-not found here, I apologize, but mind-dump. I don’t do a lot of editing here as I like that it is more a stream of consciousness type post, normally written while drinking coffee, listening to music, and reflecting on the week gone by.

If you would like, you can write and post your own Weekend Coffee Share here with the rest of us coffee drinking fiends!

  1. Happy weekend coffee share. Water is also my drink of choice. I also don’t like talking when the TV is on.

I am glad you’ve enjoyed writing more and that you’re more satisfied with your story rewrite.

    1. Thanks for dropping by! Yeah, the heat really slows you down, but if I don’t pile up some miles now, I want have the endurance (or speed) come fall. Have a great week!

  2. Happy to hear that the running and half-marathon training are going so well! I am, myself, looking forward to cooler temperatures, so that I can venture forth, again. Current reading is Identity (nonfiction) by Francis Fukuyama, The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg (online book club book), and L.E. Modesitt Jr.’s Imager Portfolio series (The “Recluse” series SF author whose speculative fiction is go-to rereads).

The book by Stephen King that I liked is Duma Key. Haven’t read any of David Farland’s books, yet. I will take a look.

    Best wishes for your week!
