If we were having coffee, I’d offer you something nice to drink. I have coffee, tea, and perhaps a few other things that may suit you. Let’s see what we can rustle up. I’m having coffee myself. Left-over from this morning, but microwaved to boiling so it’s all good. If you help me finish off this old pot, we can put on a new one.
Now that we’re all settled, we can relax a bit, talk, and listen to a bit of music. I’ve got Jimmy Buffett playing “He Went to Paris” right now and after that, who knows? I like my Jimmy Buffett. Maybe it’s the sound and feel of the islands, where the weather suits my clothes, if I can borrow that phrase from the man himself. In these winter months, it’s nice to think of the tropics and times when it was not so cold.
The past week didn’t go quite like I expected. After maybe my best writing day in who knows how long Monday, the rest of the week seemed to fall by the wayside. I had planned to edit a bit on Tuesday (didn’t happen), write my #FridayFictioneers post Wednesday (happened late Friday), and Thursday was Valentine’s, so…
It just goes to show that a good start and well intended plans do not guarantee a successful conclusion.
That being said, it wasn’t a bad week. Oh contraire! It was a good week. Most of the missed writing opportunities were replaced with family time, or out to dinner with my wife, who just happens to be my most special Valentine!
I did finish reading Iain Kelly’s “A Justified State” during the week. It was great and I can recommend it to you without a worry. It part action, part detective mystery, and all good. If you do decide to pick it up, you can also feel good about supporting an indi author. I wouldn’t say that if the book wasn’t good though. Know that.
With that one down, I picked up Patrick Rothfuss’ “The Slow Regard for Silent Things.” This little book is charming, but I’ll warn you much like the author does at the front of the book, if you have not read “The Kingkiller Chronicles,” don’t bother with this book. It is not where to start. Slow Regard looks at a single character from the other books in a whimsy way that is totally appropriate for the character, but would seem odd at best if you didn’t know the character beforehand.
There is just over an hour left in the listening to Pet Sematary on Audible. I’ve been thoroughly entertained with this story and try as I might, I can’t remember the ending from the old movie. Oh well, I’ll find out soon enough.
Today, I rode the bicycle with my daughter while she ran. We did five miles on the wet dirt roads around here. It was fun and something I so desperately need since I’m still not running. I’ve got to get some more exercise, one way or another.
Looking forward to the week ahead, I’m going to try to write a bit more, read as much as I can, and be happy all week long. Sounds like a plan to me! Oh, and exercise some too. Almost forgot.
Thanks for stopping by! Hope you had a great week!
#WeekendCoffeeShare is an informal weekly link-up that serves as something of a mind-dump for the week. If there are typos and what-not found here, I apologize, but mind-dump. I don’t do a lot of editing here as I like that it is more a stream of consciousness type post, normally written while drinking coffee, listening to music, and reflecting on the week gone by.
It is hosted by Eclectic Alli. Check out her post for the week and maybe post a share of your own!
