#WeekendCoffeeShare – 01-12-19

cropped-cappuccino-on-table

If we were having coffee, I wouldn’t tell you that the week was a busy one because who couldn’t say that?  I would instead offer you a cup of something hot on this cold morning and we could talk.  Maybe about where our warm weather went!

Earlier this week I was running and biking in 70 degree wonderfulness, and now we’re hanging in the 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s.  I don’t know about you, but I’m not a fan of the cold and so it’s a good day to sleep in and drink coffee.  If you happen to be one of those cold weather loving people, God bless you!  I don’t know how you do it.

We would be listening some “new to me” music I downloaded the other day.  Right now, Ozzy is kicking out “No More Tears,” a great tune that I can remember from high school, all those years ago.  We would ride around with the system booming and thinking that was awesome.  Seems that age has brought me a little more wisdom than that, but hey, at the time it was fun.  And besides, we didn’t go deaf!

In last week’s coffee share I mentioned that I wanted to do a little editing over the course of the week.  And I did manage a little editing over the week.  Yay!  But it was a very little bit of editing.  Boo!  On the plus side, it seems that perhaps my writing has improved some over the past several months, when I made the last pass over the story I was editing.  I was appalled at some of the things that I had written, left in through edits, and submitted with high hopes.  (Only to be soundly rejected.  I understand why.)

I have to credit a couple things to this.  Continuing to write, and varied things, of course and reading/listening to varied works of others.  One thing, I think, in particular that’s helped is reading Stephen King.  I’m not there yet (wherever there is), far from it, but maybe I’m on the right track.  Maybe.

Other than the bit of editing, I continued writing this week.  Like the editing though, not as much as I would have liked.  Oh well, it’s a process and progress is progress.

So that’s what’s going on here.  How has your week been?  Hopefully good, and if so, I hope you can carry that over to next week.  Feel free to grab a cup to go.  I’ll see you back here next week!

#WeekendCoffeeShare is an informal weekly link-up that serves as something of a mind-dump for the week.  If there are typos and what-not found here, I apologize, but mind-dump.  I don’t do a lot of editing here as I like that it is more a stream of consciousness type post, normally written while drinking coffee, listening to music, and reflecting on the week gone by.

It is hosted by Eclectic Alli. Check out her post for the week and maybe post a share of your own!

  1. Good for you on the editing! I always found that rough, other than the copy editing. Which was just a matter of applying rules. I admit to enjoying the cold, but I am sorry you’re get with unwelcome weather. I did, though, sleep in, this morning and then enjoy a nice cup of hot coffee with lots of milk.

    Best wishes for your week!

  2. Hi Russel.
Great visit. I too wrestle with the whole grammar challenge and I soldier on refusing to give up and let my wife, who is a great editor do it for me. For the effort I am getting better but this is a painful battle. Just today I got a reader correction on a story that been out there for over 6 months and had lots of readers – all of which most likely saw my typo but just read on. Ugh!
Hang in there. This battle is worth fighting. See ya next week.

    1. Thanks Gary! It is a fight worth fighting, it’s just not as fun as throwing down a first draft. Good luck with your writing (and editing). See you next week!

  3. Editing is perhaps the hardest and most important part of writing. I re-read my submission for NYC Flash Fiction contest the other day and was kicking myself in places. At least it is all proof that we all get better and rewriting is a valuable use of time.

  4. I feel you on not being able to write as much as you’d like. I had plans to write a little every day, and it hasn’t happened this week because I’m trying to get back into a routine after Winter break. Hang in there! We’ll both get around to it eventually!

Also, if you’re taking music suggestions, the guy I just started talking to suggested a band called Interpol. I really like them, and so I want to suggest that for your list.

    Good luck this week!

  5. You are so persistent with your reading and writing. I’m glad it pays off! Learning by doing. That’s awesome stuff! Good for you! Thanks for the coffee.

  6. Hate the cold, hate the cold, hate the cold !! And did I say, hate the cold… just saying.
Yes, a little bit of editing is, at least, editing … so big yourself up. Say: “I was busy this week and did some editing”
