#WeekendCoffeeShare – I’m Awake

cappuccino on table

If we were having coffee, I’d say good morning, or is it good day by 11?  Either way, I’m just crawling out of bed here on a beautiful Saturday.  Today, we have coffee, fresh brewed Seattle’s Best, Stoked Iced Coffee, green tea if that’s your thing, and of course water.  I’ll be sipping the Seattle’s Best and probably putting another pot on since I’ve powered through this first one already!

It was my intent to have coffee with you last night, but after dinner I didn’t feel the best and was so tired, so after fighting it long enough to watch some World Cup in which I was falling asleep during, I gave in and went to bed.  Twelve hours later, I’m awake again, drinking coffee, listening to Alanis sing while writing, and I feel all the better for the rest.  Going to bed last night was a bit frustrating since the nighttime is normally my time to write or play, but I had a busy week and I suppose it finally caught up with me.

Wednesday was the 4th and here in the States, that’s a pretty big thing!  My daughter and I went early in the morning to run the 8k  over at the beach for our 3rd consecutive year.  The race starts at 7:30am, so we were up and on the road at 5:30am to get there in enough time to do packet pick-up and warm-up before the race.  She took second in her age group, and I ran a better race than I expected with all my issues lately, averaging 9 minutes per mile.  (The daughter beat me)  It was a good time!

After the race, we came back home, got cleaned up, gathered the wife, and went to the movies to see the new “Purge.”  It was okay, but not great by any means.  That wrapped up our 4th.  We didn’t do fireworks, but that’s fine with me.

As for this week’s writing, I posted a couple of things.  The first being the start of a serial that I’m trying to make work.  I’m calling it Warriors, and it is a fantasy tale that is a true work in progress.  The other was the weekly #FridayFictioneers post.

Also, I submitted a story to a couple of places toward the end of last week.  This morning, I received the first of the rejection letters from that.  This was expected, and is part of the life of a working writer, so I’m not sad about it.  On the contrary, I’m a little happy and proud of myself for finally sending it in.  There will be other stories, and surely more rejections, but that’s not a reason to stop.  How do we get better if not from learning from out failures?

Later today, I’ll head out for a nice long run.  For now, I think I’ll work on the next bit for that serial we talked about earlier so that I can post it up Monday.  I hope you’re all having a great week out there!  See you all back here for coffee again next week!

#WeekendCoffeeShare is an informal weekly link-up that serves as something of a mind-dump for the week.  If there are typos and what-not found here, I apologize, but mind-dump.  I don’t do a lot of editing here as I like that it is more a stream of consciousness type post, normally written while drinking coffee, listening to music, and reflecting on the week gone by.

It is hosted by Eclectic Alli. Check out her post for the week and maybe post a share of your own!

  1. A Spanish Coffee after dinner is always nice, I like to have it as a treat after dinner at a restaurant.

    Congrats on the race.

I agree that the reject letters have a lot to offer in terms of learning and improving. It sure is part of a writer’s life, but I also think it makes appreciating the pieces that get accept that much more fulfilling.

    Great post, thanks for sharing.
