If we were having coffee, I would tell you that there’s just something about writing in a coffee house! It’s not something that I get to do often as there’s none really close to where I live, so I take advantage when I can.
This evening, we’re at Starbucks, so go ahead and place your order, my treat! I’m trying one of the Starbucks Reserve Coffees fresh from that Clover machine and listening to a bit of Miranda Lambert, but not loud enough to drown out the coffee shop sounds. So settle in, enjoy the smells and the light bustle that fills the shop, and relax a bit.
Unlike most times when I sit to write in a coffee shop, I’m not traveling today. My family is though, so I’ve got a weekend to do what I will. It’s going to be a busy weekend. I plan to do a bit of running, cook some things I’ve never cooked before, and write as much as possible. There’s a project or two I’d like to take chunks out of.
As for running, I’m still having issues with the hamstring and the hip above it. I’ve continued to run, just not fast. I’m too scared to run fast as fear of injuring myself to the point of not running is with me every step. It sucks. I’ve a little over 6 miles in this week and plan on 6 more tomorrow. We’ll see how that goes. With the Independence Day 8K just days away, I hate not putting in more quality miles, but it is what it is.
Tomorrow, I’m grilling mahi mahi for the first time ever. A friend at work gave it too me. He has a boat and goes out deep sea fishing quite a bit, so I’m going to whip up a blackening mix and fix a mango salsa to go along with it. For a side, I’m thinking asparagus. Yum! (Or at least I’m hoping for yum)
For the writing, I’ll start by shamelessly promoting my #FridayFictioneers post from earlier this week. I’ll place it here. Now I’ll say that I started exploring an old idea that I’ve never known how to write, and maybe still don’t. I have started to write it though. It’s about a guy who’s not real happy with his life and all the bad things that he’s willing to do to change it. (That’s all I can say about that)
Then there’s the story that I’ve been writing on my phone over the past couple of months. It’s a fantasy, that so far centers around a young girl. What I would like is to turn this into a serial here on the blog. A new piece every week with a target word count of 500. This is a developing story that I am working on, so if everything works out, you can find out what happens along with me. I haven’t decided on a day for this yet, but I’m leaning toward Monday or Tuesday every week. (I’m fairly excited about this and really hope it works out!)
It seems I have my work cut out for me, and my coffee cup is close to empty, so I have to say goodbye. On the one hand, I hate to leave the friendly confines of the coffee shop, but on the other, I’m excited to get started.
I hope you guys have a great weekend, I’ll see you for coffee next week!
#WeekendCoffeeShare is an informal weekly link-up that is now hosted by Eclectic Alli. Check out her post for the week and maybe post a share of your own!
Hi Russel,

So much exciting stuff going on! You’re in the middle of a writing frenzy. Way to go! I don’t write in coffee shops very often nowadays, but when I do it is usually very inspiring. When my daughter was a baby, and a did a lot of RV:ing cross country, coffee shops with good wifi was my second home. LOL. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
