#FridayFictioneers – Road’s Closed

“Road’s closed,” George huffed, slipping his pack off and tossing it. He settled beside it and pulled a canteen free. “Guess we’re heading back.”

“We can’t. Look at all that nature.” Riley gestured out beyond the horizon, his voice panicked. “No way can we turn back now.”

George pulled hard from the canteen and nodded. “You may be right.”

Riley grinned. “I knew you’d…”

“Hold on,” George interrupted. “You’ve got fifteen minutes to take pictures or whatever. Then I’m heading back.”

Riley stomped off. There was no sense in arguing.

Walking back, George considered driving back to get his sign.

The first draft of this story came in at a whopping 203 words.  I cut and cut, and thought of giving up and starting over.  I hope that what I finally came up with is coherent and a good read.  For better or worse, here it is.  Enjoy! (I hope)

#FridayFictioneers is a weekly blog link up hosted by Rochelle over at RochelleWisoff.com. You should check out her sight and perhaps try your hand at writing a 100 word story.

Good luck!

  1. Your story had me smiling, Curt! George and Riley would make an excellent couple of characters for a variety of stories, because you’ve already sketched enough for the reader to enjoy their interaction.
