“Why would anyone live anywhere else?” Fred smiled, yellow teeth showing through a graying beard.
“Not rightfully sure bout that ma’self.” Sissy smiled back her own yellow toothed smile, lifting a stringer of silver blue fish. “Purty good catch today.”
“Fer sure. We eating good tonight. You bout ready?”
“Sure. Gotta clean ’em before we can eat ’em, and I’m bout hungry. You?”
“I could eat.”
They stood as one, and walked the dirt road barefoot the short distance to a small home on the edge of the woods to clean and eat fish beneath the beautiful evening sky.

Great dialogue. I could see that old couple. Their teeth might be yellow but they sound like they have a good and loving life.

Ah rural life. Too far to go for a dentist, I suppose.

I just imagine them chewing small hardwood sticks and mint leaves from time to time.

Dear Curt,
At least they’re happy and that’s what counts. (I do find myself wanting to send them toothpaste and a gift card for the dentist. 😉 ) Lovely story.

This was a beautiful slice of life from another world, perhaps another time. I loved the simplicity of their dialogue and their lives.
