Fridays are great. They are what most of us look forward to all week, and with good reason. It signifies the end of the work week, a time to relax, and a time that we can do some of the things we want to do for a change.
If you are like us, many Fridays are spent out to eat, and then later at the movies, seeing whatever is the latest thing out. This Friday was different though. This Friday, I was home all alone, left to my own devices, to fend for myself. It couldn’t have come at a better time.
See, now is a busy time at work. I’ve not had a day off in a couple of weeks, and I don’t see one in the immediate future. The lack of off time, combined with longer than normal hours can be draining in more than a physical manner. What I needed was a way to recharge my mental state, and a good run was just what I needed. That much I knew, so after thinking about it for several days at work, Friday finally rolled around. I punched out, came home and changed into running gear, before driving to one of the dirt roads that I frequent.
After close to four miles, I called it quits. Not really because I wanted to though. It was nice out there, just me and the dirt road, away from all the stresses and dramas of work, not to mention life in general. That’s really one of the great things about running. Yeah, it can be hard, but it’s also very rewarding. It is time to think, or time to not think when it’s just you, your heartbeat, and your breathing, one step at a time, all in a rhythm of its very own.
Back at home, I made a salad, cooked a little, and ate. Now that it’s time for bed, I’m still thinking about running and doing it again. Maybe tomorrow, maybe Monday. A lot will depend on work, but one thing’s for sure, I’ll be happy when that time arrives.
Until next time, God bless, and happy running!
